Learn how to clean your entire house with five natural ingredients, simple homemade cleaning products, and practical tips for a fresher home.

I have shared before how much I enjoy cleaning, but here is another confession: I love watching “Clean with Me” videos. There is something so satisfying about seeing a messy room become fresh, tidy, and sparkling in just a few minutes. That inspired me to share my own approach to cleaning with natural products.
In real life, cleaning the whole house takes much longer than a short video makes it look, especially with children helping along the way. Still, using the right homemade cleaners makes the process easier, more affordable, and much more pleasant. My routine includes everyday cleaning as well as a few deeper cleaning jobs, all done with natural ingredients instead of harsh chemical products.
The best part is that you do not need a cabinet full of expensive cleaners. With a few basic supplies, you can clean bathrooms, kitchen surfaces, floors, mirrors, furniture, and more. These homemade natural cleaning products are simple, effective, and leave the house smelling clean without artificial fragrances.
HOW TO CLEAN WITH NATURAL PRODUCTS
Cleaning with natural products starts with a small list of reliable ingredients. Most of my homemade cleaning recipes use vinegar, baking soda, castile soap, and essential oils. These ingredients are easy to keep on hand and can be used in many different ways throughout the home.
A good natural cleaning routine does not have to be complicated. I usually keep an all-purpose spray ready to use for quick cleanups, bathroom surfaces, vanities, mirrors, and floors. When a space needs extra attention, I bring out baking soda, lemon essential oil, or a homemade scrub for tougher stains, soap scum, and buildup.
VINEGAR FOR HOMEMADE CLEANING PRODUCTS
Vinegar is the base for many homemade natural cleaners. Because of its acidity, it helps dissolve sticky residue, grime, water spots, and everyday dirt. It is one of the most useful ingredients to keep in your cleaning cabinet.
My DIY all-purpose cleaner is the product I reach for most often. On many days, it is the only cleaner I need for the majority of the house. It works well on many common household surfaces, though it should not be used on natural stone such as granite, quartz, or marble because vinegar can damage those surfaces over time.
HOW TO USE BAKING SODA FOR CLEANING
Baking soda is another classic natural cleaning ingredient. It is helpful for scrubbing, deodorizing, and lifting grime from surfaces that need a little extra work. I often use baking soda when I am deep cleaning, especially in bathrooms, toilets, tubs, and areas with stubborn buildup.
It can also be useful in laundry routines. Many people use baking soda to help freshen fabrics and reduce odors. Around the house, it is especially helpful when paired with vinegar for toilets, drains, and other areas that need a deeper clean.
CASTILE SOAP FOR CLEANING
Castile soap is a concentrated vegetable-based soap that works well in many homemade cleaning recipes. It adds the suds many people expect when cleaning and helps lift dirt from surfaces.
I also like castile soap because it is versatile. It can be used in homemade hand soaps, simple cleaning sprays, and other natural home recipes. Since it is concentrated, a little goes a long way, which makes it a practical ingredient to keep around.
BEST ESSENTIAL OILS FOR CLEANING
Several essential oils are popular for natural cleaning. I most often use lemon, wild orange, and melaleuca, also known as tea tree oil. These oils add a fresh scent to homemade cleaners and help make the house smell bright and clean without synthetic fragrance.
Lemon essential oil is one of my favorites for deep cleaning. It is especially useful for sticky spots, stubborn marks, and freshening up surfaces. Always use essential oils carefully, and test homemade cleaners on a small hidden area first if you are unsure how a surface will respond.
DEEP CLEANING WITH NATURAL PRODUCTS
For everyday cleaning, I usually stick with my all-purpose spray. But every now and then, the house needs more attention. Deep cleaning days are when I wash windows, wipe down window sills, clean cabinets, scrub baseboards, tackle tubs, and focus on the jobs that are easy to put off.
When I am deep cleaning, lemon essential oil is one of the ingredients I reach for first. It is helpful for sticky residue, tough spots, and marks that need a little extra effort.
HOW TO CLEAN BATHROOMS NATURALLY
Bathrooms often need a combination of everyday cleaning and deep cleaning. With the right natural products, you can clean floors, vanities, toilets, showers, tubs, and mirrors without using a separate chemical cleaner for every job.
FLOORS
For bathroom floors, I use an all-purpose spray with water. I start in one area, spray the floor lightly, and then scrub with a wet mop. This method works well for regular floor cleaning and keeps the bathroom smelling fresh.
VANITIES
The all-purpose spray is also useful for bathroom vanities. Spray the surface, let it sit for a moment if needed, and wipe it clean with a microfiber cloth.
For hard water spots, rust, or soap scum, lemon essential oil or a homemade shower cleaner can help. Add a few drops of lemon essential oil to the spot, allow it to sit briefly, and then wipe it clean. For thicker soap scum, use a stronger homemade soap scum remover or scrub.
TOILETS
Toilets can be cleaned a few different ways depending on how much attention they need.
For a quick clean, I spray the toilet with all-purpose cleaner and scrub it with a toilet brush. For a hands-off option, homemade toilet cleaning bombs are convenient and easy to use.
When the toilet needs deeper cleaning, pour about one cup of vinegar into the bowl and sprinkle in baking soda. Let the mixture sit for several minutes before scrubbing. This method can be helpful for rings and buildup.
SHOWER AND TUB
Cleaning the shower and tub is one of the bigger bathroom jobs. It is easy to ignore because guests may never see it, but soap scum and hard water stains can build up quickly.
A homemade shower scrub works well for deeper cleaning. Spread a generous amount over the shower walls, tub, and floor. Let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub and rinse well with water.
MIRRORS
The all-purpose spray can also be used on mirrors. Spray the mirror lightly and wipe it clean with a microfiber cloth. It leaves the glass looking clear without needing a separate glass cleaner.
HOW TO CLEAN KITCHEN NATURALLY
FLOORS
Kitchen floors can be cleaned the same way as bathroom floors if they are made from a surface that tolerates your all-purpose spray. I use a mop, warm water, and a light spray of homemade cleaner. For stained grout, a homemade grout cleaner can help brighten the lines and remove buildup.
COUNTERTOPS
I use my all-purpose spray on many countertops, but it is important to avoid vinegar-based cleaners on natural stone. Vinegar can damage granite, quartz, marble, and similar surfaces. If you have natural stone countertops, choose a cleaner made specifically for that type of material.
For other sealed surfaces that tolerate vinegar, a homemade all-purpose cleaner is a simple option for wiping crumbs, spills, and daily messes.
HOW TO CLEAN FURNITURE NATURALLY
For dusting furniture, I like using soft cloths with a simple homemade dusting solution. A basic dusting oil can be made with olive oil and wild orange essential oil.
Add 1/4 cup of olive oil to a small mason jar, then add 10 drops of wild orange essential oil.
Apply about a quarter-size amount to a dusting cloth and rub it over wood furniture. It helps pick up dust and adds a natural shine. Use a small amount at a time so the furniture does not feel greasy, and test on a hidden spot first if the finish is delicate.
DIFFUSER BLENDS FOR CLEANING DAY

A fresh diffuser blend can make cleaning day feel more enjoyable. After the house is tidy, I like diffusing bright, clean-smelling oils such as lemon, rosemary, peppermint, wild orange, or bergamot. It gives the home a fresh finish without artificial room sprays.
