Char-BOO-terie

This festive Char-BOO-terie board is a fun Halloween dessert charcuterie board filled with candy, cookies, fruit, and nuts. It is designed for easy entertaining and gives guests plenty of sweet, salty, crunchy, chewy, and fresh options to enjoy. Instead of following one exact formula, choose your favorite items from each category and arrange them on a large serving board, platter, or tray. The result is a colorful Halloween party centerpiece that looks playful, tastes delicious, and can be customized for kids, adults, or a mixed crowd.
For the best presentation, combine different shapes, colors, and textures. Bright orange candies, dark chocolate cookies, white marshmallow ghosts, green grapes, red apples, and salted nuts all help create a board with contrast and balance. Use small bowls for loose candies, nuts, or sticky items, then fill the open spaces with cookies, fruit, and wrapped treats. This Halloween candy board is simple to assemble, easy to refill, and perfect for parties, movie nights, classroom celebrations, or a spooky dessert table.

Instructions

  • Choose a large board, platter, tray, or clean serving surface. Before arranging the ingredients, decide which candies, cookies, fruits, and nuts you want to feature. Pick 5 to 6 chocolate and candy options, 3 to 4 pastries or cookies, and 4 to 5 fruit and nut options so the Halloween dessert board feels full without becoming crowded.
  • Start with the chocolate and candy. Include a mix of wrapped and unwrapped pieces for visual interest and easy serving. Place small candies such as Reese’s Pieces, M&M’s, candy corn, and candy eyeballs in small bowls or compact piles. Larger items, such as marshmallow ghosts, peanut butter cups, caramels, gummy worms, and chocolate-covered pretzels, can be arranged around the bowls to create a playful Halloween look.
  • Add the pastries and cookies next. Choose a variety of soft, crunchy, sandwich-filled, and stick-style cookies. Stack some cookies, fan others out, and stand cookie sticks upright in a small container if desired. The different heights and shapes will make the Char-BOO-terie board look more abundant and inviting.
  • Add fruit and nuts to bring freshness, color, and balance to the board. Fresh grapes, berries, apple slices, pears, figs, and mandarin oranges add bright color beside the sweets. Dried apricots and dates add a chewy texture, while salted, shelled nuts such as cashews, pistachios, almonds, or mixed nuts add a savory contrast.
  • Fill any empty spaces with smaller treats. A great Halloween charcuterie board should look generous, so tuck candies, nuts, grapes, and pretzels into gaps until the board feels complete. Keep similar colors slightly separated so orange, black, white, green, and red ingredients stand out.
  • Serve the board soon after arranging, especially if it includes sliced apples, pears, berries, or other fresh fruit. If preparing ahead, keep fresh fruit separate until serving time, then add it just before guests arrive. Refill the candy, cookies, and nuts as needed during the party.

Notes

A skeleton cookie makes a fun centerpiece, but it is optional. You can replace it with any Halloween-themed cookie, decorated sugar cookie, chocolate cookie, or another spooky sweet that fits your board.
For a cleaner presentation, use small bowls or ramekins for loose candies, nuts, caramel corn, and raisins. If you are serving guests with allergies or dietary preferences, keep nuts and wrapped candies separated from the rest of the board whenever possible.
